History of Middle School Wrestling
Middle school wrestling has been active in Kentucky for many years.  Most kids first started while working with various high school programs throughout the State.

The first middle school state championship was held in 2000 and has grown from an open tournament to a event with district and regional qualifying tournaments.

The middle school coaches association (KSWA) was formed in 2003, and incorporated in 2007 as a non-profit organization.

The association is composed of middle school "school" teams made up of kids that attend the same school and "club" teams than can be composed of kids from 2 or more schools.  Team trophies are awarded for each division at the Individual State Tournament.

Middle school regional qualifying tournaments were first held in 2004.

Open District qualifying tournaments started in 2010 to address incresed participation in the State.

The KSWA sponsors the following events:
  • 8 - District Tournaments
  • 4 - Regional Tournaments
  • Team Duals State Tournament
  • Team and Individual Tournament
Participation continues to grow with 3-4 new teams starting each year.
