There are way too many reasons why a child can be heldback and these reasons can be used subjetively by anyone. A current example is that a kid who was heldback to repeat the 3rd grade could have been blocked from wrestling in this year's tournament. Was this an unfair advantage to the other kids in his bracket? I think not, but there were others that thought it was. What difference does it make if a kid is 9 or 10 and held back in the third grade when he is going to wrestle 6th, 7th and 8th graders. The answer is probably none, but there are those that had issue with it. 15 is an age that is too old for a middle schooler and the physical maturity advantage is significant. Do the association a favor and settle on age as the only reason why a wresler will not be allowed to compete.
